by | May 19, 2023

Yesterday, the Virtual Cable project at Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) received the Open Awards 2023 in the Open Innovation category.

The implementation of our UDS Education solution for remote teaching and teleworking has made us deserving of this important award shared with UMH, which rewards the commitment of this university to Open Source technology in providing a quality service to the entire educational community.
The Open Innovation category recognizes ideas that change the technological landscape and those who create innovative solutions for global challenges. It also rewards creativity, out-of-the-box thinking, and the ability to leverage the latest technologies to solve today’s most important challenges.

Thanks to their project with our VDI solution based on Open Source and customized for the education sector, Miguel Hernández University of Elche has successfully overcome the challenges of accessibility to computer tools for the entire educational community while improving sustainability and achieving significant energy savings.

Students, teachers, administrative and service staff (PAS), researchers… Each user group enjoys the benefits of having a remote access solution to their user or workspaces tailored to their needs. UDS Education allows them to configure workspaces based on Windows and Linux virtual desktops and applications, as well as remote access to computers located at the university. In this way, they can deliver a personalized solution to each user in terms of performance, usability, and technical functionalities.

With this VDI project, the university has achieved its goal of aligning with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and saving public costs by promoting a modern and innovative IT infrastructure to achieve quality education.

Raúl Torrecillas, from the Innovation and Technological Planning Service at UMH, was responsible for receiving the statuette at the gala held at La Nave in Madrid, as part of the Open Expo Europe 2023 event program.

The Open Awards 2023 publicly recognize companies, administrations, personalities, and communities that create, support, and promote open technological innovation. You can watch the award ceremony moment for UMH in the following video:
